Multiple-pass edit
This edit includes everything encompassed in a single-pass full developmental edit, a comprehensive and intensive assessment of your story identifying what’s working well and offering suggestions for strengthening areas that may benefit from more clarification, development, or depth.
In the first pass you’ll receive a very detailed editorial overview letter with big-picture critique in such areas as characterization, plot, stakes, structure, forward momentum, etc., as well as in-depth specific comments embedded in the manuscript (using Track Changes) that build on and dig deeper into the overview feedback.
This package also includes additional editorial passes (two or three, depending on the author’s preferences and needs) with detailed in-line embedded feedback, and additional overview notes if needed. This is the way I work with publishing houses and can be very helpful for authors—it allows you to make subsequent revision passes based on editorial feedback, and to circle in ever more tightly with each pass on strengthening the story itself and polishing the prose.
Rates:
Multiple-pass rates are determined after I offer a sample edit on your story (about 1,500 words from a midpoint of the manuscript) to determine whether we’re a good editorial fit, depending on the number of passes and the amount of work required and agreed upon (exact quote settled before work begins).
