You’re the Reason I’m Here

Friends, I’m as susceptible to the holiday spirit as anyone, and as I take time away from work and this blog to spend with my family and friends, I wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate you, your creative efforts, and the time you give to me and this blog.

I want to say thank-you to all of you—I wish I could say it to each of you. Your work makes my work possible: Editors don’t exist without authors and storytellers. Because you do what you do, I’m privileged to spend my career doing what I love, pursuing my own passion.

Thank you for being here, for showing up to read this blog or my other posts around the web, or attend my workshops, or read my book, or take my online courses: Your love of your craft gives my work purpose and meaning.

Thank you for putting your stories into the world—despite the demands and challenges of creative work and the toll it can take on your psyche. I dedicated Intuitive Editing “to the storytellers, who illuminate the world,” and it’s true. Your stories connect people, enlighten us, entertain, make us feel, make us think.

Your stories connect people, enlighten us, entertain, make us feel, make us think.

It’s been tempting lately to feel cynical or removed even at this time of year, at least for me. With so much anger and polarization in the world it can feel as if the usual connotations of holidays—joy to the world, goodwill toward all, peace on earth—are a pipe dream, a naïve child’s view.

Yet nearly every day you remind me that we all create the world we want to live in, day by day by day, one person, one connection at a time. Thank you.

I hope you all have holidays filled with warmth and love, laughter and kindness and joy, tolerance and forbearance and understanding. I’m grateful for you.
